Rock Painting Project by Ernestina Gallina: Sentimental Messages Written in Stone Creativity Rockin' Around the Clock
I love witnessing manifestations of creative brilliance. When most people think of artists who are prolific painters, thoughts of white stretched canvases and palettes of paint with bristly brushes immediately fill their minds. But in a world of endless creative possibility, anything can be a "canvas" in a literal sense: wood, paper, glass, boxes, walls, doors, book fronts, cars, people (think tattoos!) and yes, rocks.

Rocks have been around since the beginning of time (or have they?) and have served wonderfully for all sorts of creative purposes beyond David and Goliath battles, as the Flintstone's will attest to. And yes, in recent years, Lin Wellford has brought small and big boulders up through the dirt and back to the surface through her many books about the art of painting on rocks. New artists, inspired by this creative use of rocks as canvases have made an art out of their own expressions of creativity by using stones in most unusual and innovative ways.

Earlier this month, I wrote about one such artist, Ernestina Gallina and her whimsical painted rocks, and the projects she's been commissioned to create for the Creativity Portal Web site. Today I'm happy to unveil her third in a series of projects, a rock painting tutorial titled "Written in Stone" that shows you step-by-step how to artfully design an antique-looking open-faced book complete with text from your favorite quote, saying, or personalized sentiment. Yes, you can write or paint your own words onto the book pages as a beautiful sentiment for yourself or as a gift for someone special. Go have a look see »

P.S. Be sure to see Ernestina's other rock painting projects on the Creativity Portal Web site and visit her personal site at www.pietrevive.it to see all of her other rock art goodies! •
