Creativity Tip #5: Try something new.

By Chris Dunmire

As trite as it seems, this little gem is priceless!

'Try something new' is all about stepping outside of your established structure, set patterns, comfort zone. It means sampling that weird food, touristing a different town, enrolling yourself in that pottery class.

Intentionally trying something different opens doors to new ways of thinking that you didn't have before. It makes neurons forge new connections in your brain and creates memory paths that expand your life experience and broaden your world view.

Even when the results of trying something new isn't favorable ("that brussel sprout soup was deee-sgusting!") you will walk away armed with the knowing that you indeed treaded water where you never swam before.

See what happened when I signed up for a pottery class! »
