Cards That Pop-Up, Flip & Slide

Cards that Pop up, Flip & Slide by Michael Jacobs

Gathering Inspiration & Ideas for My Upcoming Collage Workshop

I'm toggling between the "gathering" and "incubation" modes of a new creative adventure, playing around with several ideas I will eventually incorporate into a "creative kids playful collage" workshop I'm facilitating in February 2008.

In sparking inspiration, over the weekend I tooled around with my Innovatively Fun Creative 3D Collage Cubies, but I'm leaning towards something more 2D (flat), yet dynamic in nature for the kids to work with. Feeding on ideas, I'm paging through my paper craft books, including the very cool and inspiring project book, Cards that Pop Up, Flip & Slide, sent to me by authors Michael and Judy Jacobs last year from the Creative Zone (www.thecreativezone.com).

I first wrote about the Creative Zone in July 2007 in an article titled "Purveyors of Papercraft." I absolutely adore the creative work the Jacobes are doing and I'm delighted with the ideas coming to me just by looking at Michael's Cards that Pop Up, Flip & Slide book. It's the "movable" things about the projects in the book that are intriguing (not to mention the 23 easy-to-follow templates in the book that encourage experimenting). I'm certain I'll figure out something terrific to try, twist, tear up, and traipse through.

I'll be preparing several example collages for my workshop in the upcoming weeks, and so if time and energy allows, I'll post some photos of what I've done. •
