Horton Hears a What? Seussing it up...
I was so intrigued with this new Dr. Seuss movie, Horton Hears a Who by the creators of Ice Age after catching the promotional interview with Jim Carrey, Steve Carrel, and Carol Burnett on Oprah weeks ago. Then after a trustworthy friend recommended seeing it after a Saturday afternoon matinee (AND with no kids necessary), I put it on my Creative Play Date list of things to do... and I did!
Here's the fun part: I've never read the book version of the Horton Hears a Who story , and I haven't been paying any attention to the movie trailers, so I went into the theatre with no speculation expectation, except for what I learned in the interview about how the voice-over's were done independently by the various actors in the show, who met for the first time together on Oprah's set after collaborating on this movie!
Horton is highly entertaining and creative and funny and uplifting and so worth it! (Though a Seuss fan, I didn't feel this way after the Cat in the Hat movie.) I'm hoping the next Dr. Seuss movie will be about the Sneetches. Oh, there's so much to learn from those sneetchy stars upon thars, you know...
If you've seen the Horton movie and want to continue the Whoville fun, be sure to visit the www.hortonmovie.com Web site for more creativity inspiring movie wallpapers, screensavers, ringtones ("poop butterflies"), games, printable fun, activities and coloring pages, and other fanfare including adopting a Who ("What the Heck...Save a Speck!" and you know I did!).
I haven't been this inspired by a cartoony elephant since my Nit Witty elepants (and related Peanut Pets). Horton and the Who's inspire me for so many reasons. Here's my four stars ( * * * * ) for this springy fun flick. •
