On the Interview with Author & Artist Jerry Wennstrom April-27-2009

The Inspired Heart: An Artist's Journey of Transformation by Jerry Wennstrom

The Inspired Heart: An Artist's Journey
of Transformation by Jerry Wennstrom

By Chris Dunmire

Here's something different: an amazingly gifted, talented, and prolific artist with 'an enormous body of art' who doesn't sell it, hasn't accepted gallery representation, and allows only 'the true art-lovers, not the merchants' to show it.

Jerry Wennstrom (www.handsofalchemy.com) is the first artist I've seen have the honor to be asked this interview question, courtesy of Molly Anderson-Childers:

"What inspired your impetus to destroy your paintings, give away all your earthly possessions, and embark upon this incredible spiritual and creative journey?"

(Read his response on page 2 of the interview.)

And I'm still soaking up Wennstrom's response to Molly's closing question:

"What is your message for the next generation of up-and-coming artists?"

Embedded within is this contemplation:

"As the crowning jewel of any creative journey, inspiration moves in to define our individual expression — and it is here that we must let go and leave behind all that we think we know about art. At the same time, we must honor all that has come before us."

Bonus tidbit: Jerry's art is featured in the new film, "Mythic Journeys" by Steven and Whitney Boe. He said, "The film also includes the art of Alan Lee (Lord of the Rings) and Brian and Wendy Froud (creators of Yoda in Star Wars). Here is the link to the trailer, which includes my paintings."

“My only desire at this phase
in my life is to stay open
and aware enough
to allow the spirit of the time
to flow freely through everything I do.
If I can accomplish this,
I believe all else will fall into place.”
