"Ideas are sexy and fun until they become projects." — Scott Belsky
By Chris Dunmire
Scott Belsky (founder and CEO of Behance and author at Creativity Portal) has just exhaled by publishing his 5-year book project Making Ideas Happen: Overcoming the Obstacles Between Vision and Reality. Must be a hot little number, because according to www.the99percent.com it's now a Wall Street Journal bestseller.
Scott asked if I'd help spread the word about his book, which I'm happy to do as he's been a prolific contributor at C-P 'Helping Creative People Make Ideas Happen' over the years. Here's how he describes his book:
"In short, the book is all about execution. The premise being that ideas are worthless if you can't make them happen. The book chronicles the methods I observed among exceptionally productive leaders and teams. The research involved interviews at prolific companies like Google, IDEO, and Disney — and with especially productive folks like author Chris Anderson and Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh among other well-known creative minds. The book reveals the best practices of those that defy the odds and make their ideas happen, time and time again."
Scott also wrote a supporting article for C-P, Surviving The Project Plateau, to further whet your appetite for what's in the book. I loved how he noted in the piece: "Ideas are sexy and fun until they become projects." Ideas indeed are sexy! Now the execution...that's another thing.
Belsky's Make Ideas Happen is available from Amazon. Learn more about Behance at www.behance.com. Congratulations on finishing your book, Scott, and making that idea happen! •
