Poetry Pit Stop & Amusing Muses

Creativity Playshops for Kids at Womanspace
During February & March 2012

By Chris Dunmire

Ready for a creative 2012? I'm thrilled to be offering two new creativity-enriching playshops for kids (boys and girls) at Womanspace in Rockford, Illinois, during the months of February and March.

Descriptions for my upcoming Poetry Pit Stop and Amusing Muses follow. For more information and to register your kids by February 23, please visit Womanspace online or call 815-877-0118.

Poetry Pit Stop JM11-4

Magnetic PoetryAges 9 & up. This engaging writing playshop brings kids “outside the box” to experiment with new, innovative ways of expressing their creativity through the art of poetry writing.

Low-pressure traditional and modern forms of poetry (acrostic, haiku, rhyme, magnetic, fortune cookie) will be explored, along with creative expression into artistic and cutting-edge technology containers rolling fast in our digital age. A short diversion into IM and Twitter poetry will definitely get two thumbs up!

Kids: Bring a list of your 25 favorite words.

Date: February 25, 2012 (Register by February 23)
Time: Saturday, 9:30a–Noon
Facilitator: Chris Dunmire
Location: New Dimensions Studio
Fee: Regular $25 Member $20

Amusing Muses: Ten Guides to Creative Inspiration JM11-5

The Nine Modern Day Muses (And a Bodyguard) by Jill BadonskyAges 9 & up. The ancients enjoyed the company of the original Nine Greek Muses, but we’ve got one up on them — a protective bodyguard named Arnold!

Kids of all ages love learning about Arnold along with Modern Day Muses Aha-Phrodite, Bea Silly, Marge, Muse Song, Spills, Albert, Audacity, Lull, and Shadow (based on the book The Nine Modern Day Muses [And a Bodyguard] by Jill Badonsky).

Kids: Bring a list of the top 5 things you like to create.

Date: March 31, 2012 (Register by March 29)
Time: Saturday, 9:30a–Noon
Facilitator: Chris Dunmire
