Exploring Reiki and Chakras

Commander Reiki and Chakra Khan Posted Oct-11-2005
Prismatic Colors and Universal Life Energy
The title is punny, but this isn't about a well-endowed singer or Star Trek Generations. It's about another artistic frontier that I'm not afraid to explore. A New Age spirituality, if you will: Healing Arts.

My openness to exploring new areas doesn't necessarily indicate that I embrace every new idea, opinion, or belief system that I come across. It does mean, however, that I enjoy learning new points of view and desire to understand the belief systems other people have. To me, this is another interpretation to thinking 'outside the box.'

Curiosity is one of the Seven da Vincian Principles, after all (courtesy of Michael Gelb's book How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci). Sometimes my open-minded curiosity leads me to interesting places. Yes, da Vinci continues to inspire me with his endless three-way sketches and insatiable curiosita. Here's a quote for you:

"If I wasn't curious, I'd be dead."
— Chris Dunmire

My enthusiasm over the creative process has me thinking a lot about energy. What fuels the innate desires of an artist? Some say we are made in God's (or your higher power name of choice) image. The highest deity in the Bible was occasionally referred to as the "Grand Creator." No wonder we're so creatively driven, it's embedded in us.

Naturally, in my contemplativeness, my exploratory attention has been geared towards energy work. In particular, the energy-healing Reiki, and by association, the ethereal inner energy vortexes of the Chakra system. I just love those Chakras. Did you know that their colors correspond with the rainbow (ROYGBIV)?

(To brush up on your Chakra system knowledge, visit Carolyn Myss online. She's got a very cool interactive-digital chakra model you can play with).

I recently crossed paths with a Reiki Master at a workshop I attended. I listened to her speak for several hours and learned quite a bit about Reiki, Chakras, and their related accessories. We could even say that on one level, I'm much more attuned to understanding this healing art.

Plus, now I can relate to a whole new segment of people. When one of them says, "Chris, your explosive creative urges are emanating from your orange Sacral Chakra" I can politely nod my head and understand what she means. Then I can touch my abdomen right below my navel and think "navel + orange = creativity."

Now there's some enlightenment for you. I wonder if Sunkist knows about this? (© 2005 Chris Dunmire)
