How to Draw Cartoony Blue Jeans ("Dungarees")

Nit Wits #4: Elepants

Drawing cartoony pants or blue jeans uses the same symmetry-making technique as the tea cup: mirroring. In Nit Wits #4 ("Elepants") I drew one pant leg with belt loops, mirrored (flipped) it to the other side, and added a button fly at the intersection.

Once you understand the basic straight-on structure of the pants, you can play around with the 'material flow' of the pant legs to give them character. Hey, if I can draw pants for an elephant, you can draw them for just about anyone!

Learn how to draw your own basic blue bluejeans by following my cartoony drawing lesson below. Fun variations you can try: Draw with "marker" on your jeans or make them distressed, hole-filled, ripped or torn at the knee.
