DIY Gift Package: Innovative and Fun Gift Wrapping Templates

Creative Gift Packaging for Paper Model Crafters
Posted Nov-20-2005
Computer Crafting: Print, Cut, and Assemble
I love the novelty of folding paper into fun models, origami, gift packaging, and Garfield Goose-type puppet mouths. Two years ago I came across an awesome "gift package" product called DIY Gift Package and Crafts, which is an assortment of printable paper model templates in the shape of cars, angels, boats, cups, baby bottles, trains, teddy bears, and other novelty things bundled into a PDF e-book product (now available in a published book format).

DIY Gift Package Cuppacino Cup Gift WrappingIt works like this:

  1. You print a template from your computer onto a sheet of paper in your inkjet or laser printer (I used a sheet of scrapbooking paper for this cuppacino cup.)

  2. You cut out, fold, and assemble the template into the gift packaging model per the easy instructions.

  3. The templates are designed to be printed at any size, so if you have a small gift, print smaller.

I spent a week putting together a few of the DIY Gift Package templates and reviewed the product for the CP Web site. This is still a novelty product I highly recommend, and wanted to mention it for the upcoming holiday gift-giving season. One of the best features of this product is that you can re-use the templates forever — just by printing another copy.

If you'd like to see how this product works, you can get a free template by signing up for DIY's online newsletter, which contains high-quality craft tips and other inspiring ideas from DIY Gift Package creator Janlia Chong.
