Completing Dr. Maisel's Creativity Coaching Training
Posted Feb-19-2006
I walked out to my rural mailbox and opened its hinged door as usual. As I reached inside to pull out the day's mail, I noticed a big yellow envelope sitting on top of a rolled up mass of slick ads from local retailers. Noticing the words "First Class, Do Not Bend" written across the front, I immediately knew what it was. ...

Bonnie Neubauer's Online Story Spinner Posted Feb-5-2006
Another Cool Online Writing Prompt Generator
If you enjoy things like the Imagination Prompt Generator, you can't miss giving this other fun story prompt generator by Bonnie Neubauer a whirl. When you arrive at Bonnie's online Story Spinner page, you will find a story setting, starting phrase, and four words you must include in your story waiting for you.

For example, I just got:

Setting for your story: on the prairie

Starting phrase for your story: The better I ...

Four words you must include in your story:
Boss, Redhead, Aflutter, Umbrella

What shall I do with these interesting story elements? Spin a story of course! I present my quick creative writing stab:

The better I plan my excursions in nature (especially on walks in the prairie behind my neighborhood) the more time I have to reflect on what's important in life. Love immediately comes to mind.

For instance, the other day I was walking along the edges of the prairie's frozen marsh and my mind immediately snapped back to a classic episode of Little House on the Prairie I saw on TV when I was 12. The story featured some bossy redhead woman whose heart afluttered at the sight of some stately man who arrived on Walnut Grove's brand new train. The man wore a spiffy black hat and carried a classy umbrella tucked firmly under his arm, which he would soon find unnecessary due to the town's ongoing drought because of nasty Nellie Oleson's deal with the mystic shaman in Nellsville. ...

See how much fun you can have with this? Now go spin your own stories...

Go see the crafty basket application of my ant drawing project...

It's No Picnic without the Ants Posted Feb-3-2006
Drawing Out My Ants /oo\O
Of course I'm pleased when I know that something I've created has been useful to someone else in the way I intended it. For example, I recently learned that my How to Draw a Cartoony Ant Lesson was used to help a crafter with this Pic-i-nic Bass-ket project (see the painted ants on the plate). How cleverly cool! (Ants really go well with red and white checkered table cloths, ya know.)

Inspiration in action. That's cool too.

Personality Trait Work
Last week the lesson from my coaching course focused on personality trait work. Our class was given a list of 75 different personality traits, and our assignment was to choose one to work on for the entire week and report back to our class why we chose it, what we "tried out" to work on the trait, and what transpired through our efforts. My report...
