The Healing Muse Posted Mar-9-2006
A Journal of Literary and Visual Arts with a Focus on Medicine, Illness, Disability, and Healing
I know a number of individuals who have expressed how much healing they have found through their art, writing, and other expressions of creativity. This is one reason why art therapy is such a huge deal in the mental health field. For some, it provides an expressive outlet they've never had before that literally brings on positive transformation in their health.

I am always interested in learning more about creative healing and recently came across The Healing Muse journal published by SUNY Upstate Medical University's Center for Bioethics & Humanities. Their Web site offers sample writings from previous issues and welcomes submissions of "fiction, poetry, narratives, essays, memoirs and visual art, particularly but not exclusively focusing on themes of medicine, illness, disability and healing."

What a welcoming platform to share personal writings and art to help inspire others, perhaps even towards those seeking a single ray of hope to healing themselves.

Swimming with a Surrealist: Artist Maggie Taylor

The article focused on the 'capture and output' of Maggie Taylor's art, and did much to make me ponder over the age-old debate: "What is art?" ...

Athenian Muse Series

I've Got Good Muse and... Posted Mar-2-2006
Who are Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Terpsichore, Thalia, Polyhymnia, and Urania? The original nine greek muses, of course! And if you’d like to learn more about each of the nine Athenian Muses, you can consult ancient Greek mythology literature to fill you in on the details.

However, if you’d like to explore the variety of ways in which you can invoke each of the muses in your own expressions of creativity today, you can’t miss the developing “Nine Athenian Muses” article series by Molly Anderson-Childers going on right now at the Creativity Portal. Hey, maybe you can even invite a muse or two over for tea! Tearato, Euteape, Tearpsichore...

Hmmm... Maybe they won't be so aMused if I mess with their names like that. I should Athaliagize now.

I Don't Want to be Your Guru, But I Have Something to Say (A Conversation with Old Bill)

I Don't Want to be Your Guru, But I Have Something to Say (A Conversation with Old Bill) Posted Mar-1-2006
The layers of symbolism I personally found in the book's title, its back-story, and frontal message is truly relevant to my journey. When Joyce invited me to read her book, which is categorized on LuLu.com as "New Age & Alternative: New Thought", my curiosity led me to read the 54-page book from cover to cover in one afternoon (with a short nap in between). ...
