Nit Wits #36: Sale Boat Posted Dec-31-2007
If it floats yer boat...
I've never been to a boat store before. Oh, I've been in various sporting goods stores where they have small canoes and rubber rafts on display for sale, but I can't think of a time when I've seen a life-sized sail boat (sailboat?) in full upright open-sailnessness for sale in a store. ...

If you've ever driven down a long stretch of rural road, you'll know that the landscape can go on for days without anything noteworthy happening. No stop lights. No strip malls. No drive-through's, grocery stores, Wal*Marts, or anything else. No, it's just you, the road, and the land. ...

I Am Legend Movie & Van Gogh's Starry Night Painting
Posted December-22-2007
Everything is yours when you're the last man in New York.
On Wednesday I saw the movie "I Am Legend" starring Will Smith and had only one burning question running through my curious mind afterwards: Did Will's character yoink the original Van Gogh "Starry Night" painting from the New York MoMA art collection to hang above the fireplace in his house?

The possibility occurred to me after noticing the painting a number of times during the movie and seeing a very peculiar frame around the painting, a frame like that of an ORIGINAL ART MUSEUM PAINTING! After the third or fourth time, I thought: He's the only man alive in New York City. What would prevent him from going inside the art museum and taking any painting he wants? Why settle for a print of Van Gogh's most famous painting when he can have the real thing?

Who else wondered that? And what famous painting would you snag from a museum to hang in your house if its only value is in how it resonates with you? •

Chris Dunmire's Desktop Christmas Tree Kit

Chris Dunmire's Creatively Innovative Merry Christmas! Desktop Christmas Tree Kit Posted December-04-2007
Paper Craft Cut-Out Printable Patterns
Need an easy-to-assemble decorated Christmas tree for your office desk? Computer monitor? Fireplace mantle? Car dash? Teacher's break room? Night stand? Refrigerator door?

"Necessity is the Mother of Invention" they say!

Well, since I needed a Christmas tree decoration near my "creative working space" to inspire me, Hark, and Herod this holiday season, I invented this no-fuss or muss pre-decorated Christmas tree desktop decoration perfect for at home or at the office. And then I thought, why just one size? Let me kit this thang into multiple sizes and throw in some oranges too!

What makes my Christmas tree different from the ones you can cut down or buy prefabricated at BigBox Mart?

  1. no car top scratching
  2. no watering needed
  3. no bulbs to replace
  4. no pine needles to vacuum up
  5. you can print the trees (even the Orangaments one) over and over and over and over each year!

Yes, this perpetual-printing nifty paper craft cut-out pattern kit includes 4 tree sizes plus the humorous Nit Wits "Merry Citrus! Orangaments" tree and comic poster.

Since I pre-test all of my paper products on all of those near and dear before unleashing them into the ethersphere, I spent the last week cutting out these trees and planting them on top of the desks of all of my friends and co-workers. I must say, they're a "cut above the rest (scissor humor there). •
