Sharing Ideas on Teaching Art and Making Art
This site makes my creative spirit sing. Kids 'n' creativity are some of the best things ever. Colorful, messy, energetic, uninhibited, expressive, and honest. Of course, we all still have a kid inside of us! On my resume: "I was a child for 9 years, a 'tween for 3, and a teen for 7." Part of the baggage, I carry each of them around with me daily like a Matryoshka doll (Russian nested doll). Life is so dynamically grand! •

Performance Art & Music: Recycled Percussion Band

Drumming on Recyclables
By happenstance (channel surfing), I got a glimpse of the band Recycled Percussion (recycledpercussionband.com) as finalistson NBC's America's Got Talent the other night and loved their "junk rock" sound and performance art creativity. As a designer, I also dig their logo (above) with the drum sticks posing as the "y" in recycled. More »
New Web Site for "The Beckoning of Lovely" Project

Global Community & Connection Creatively
Last week I received an update from the Ambassador of Lovely informing me of a new Web site established for the BOL project (www.thebeckoningoflovely.com) and plans for a feature film this group hopes to produce in the near future.
(If you're unfamiliar, please watch this inspiring 7-minute short film, Beckoning of Lovely.)
In support of this really cool thing, I'm passing along the info:
Today, 9/09/09, marks the next numerically significant moment in the life of The Beckoning of Lovely, the global film project that unexpectedly began on 8/08/08 at Chicago's Millennium Park.
As an early supporter of this project and/or at least as a supporter of earnestness and the arts, we wanted to be sure to let you know where The Beckoning of Lovely is now at:
Here are the links to:
a shiny brand new video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMJt_B-6QlA
a shiny brand new website! http://www.thebeckoningoflovely.com
Today, official Beckoning team (300 strangers from around the world) is huddling together to give this next phase of the project a big (and necessary) outward push.
If you like what you see/view, please pass along the new website and/or new video as you see fit. We're also happy to go into more detail about where the project is at (conceptually) and how this feature film is all coming together.
Thank you so much.
Here's to a red (yellow?) carpet premiere on 11/11/11...

I love what they're doing, and my curious, yet linear-thinking mind is wondering what happens after 12/12/12. •

Rita Farin on Day Job / Dream Job Transitioning
September-5-2009
Creative Careers Interview
I love this little snippet of an exchange between Molly and Rita in C-P's latest Creative Careers Interview around the topic of how one might successfully transition from a soul-sucking day job to a fulfilling creative dream job. Actually, the contrast between both isn't always that extreme.
Molly: Any advice for our readers who are hoping to make their own transitions from day job to dream job?
Rita: Have patience. It could take months or years. It’s a process. Time is irrelevant. What’s more important is that you incorporate something you love to do into your life on a regular basis, so you can experience the joy that comes from connecting with the deepest core of your being. Give yourself permission to be a beginner, and know that it’s ok to do it badly at first. You’ll get better. Just have fun with it and see where it leads you.
"Gradiential exchanges" off adding and subtracting is one way I believe this transition can comfortably take in our lives. Hobbies can turn into passions into part-time jobs and more if we believe they can and consistently work at it.
Like the popular diet, "Change One" the wisdom is in slowly building up, adding one change at a time where we can, and staying aware of how we're feeling in the process. Those who are most successful long-term at this transition seem to repeat the same pattern, and in particularly, don't quit their day job cold turkey one day without a nice foundation of preparation and previous investment in time and planning to catch them on the other side. •
