I woke up this morning in the middle of an awesome
dream. SARK (Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy) made
a guest appearance within my unconscious
mind
to share a noteworthy message about
celebrity hood.
I was attending one of
SARK's playful workshops and found myself in close
proximity with the
succulent author
at one point during the event. Feeling rather humbled,
I was putting on an overly-compensating front and
behaved
as many
star-struck fans would in the presence of their admired
icons.
Though sincere in my efforts, I wasn't being myself,
and SARK soon set me straight. She took me aside and
expressed that although she appreciated my supportive fan-liness,
she would
rather
get to know me on a personal level, as a friend. She
went onto say that she had enough admirers in the
world, and
what she really needed were people who wanted to get
to know her as Susan, not just SARK.
I immediately felt a sense of peace and love towards
Susan, now that I understood how much alike we were. It
didn't matter
that she was a best-selling author and creativity icon.
She was a person just like me, with the desire to
connect
with others on a real, personal level. Her celebrity was
simply a veneer, which often became a barrier in her relationships.
Would people still love her the same if she wasn't SARK,
the best-selling author?
Yes. Yes I would.
You know, it must be really cool having Susan as a friend
in real life. Can you imagine just picking up the
phone and chatting with her anytime?
Riiiiing... riiii... (she always gets it on the second ring)
SARK: Hello?
Me: Hi, it's Chris
SARK: Hey, Chris! Whatcha been up to today?
Me: Well, I got new window treatments
installed today. You should see them! They're textured earth
tone
vertical blinds and make our dining room look smashing!
SARK: Earth tones, really? I like the
whimsical watercolored look myself, but hey, different strokes
for different folks! I betcha they're love*ly!
Me: Yeah, what would you ever do without
your pretty paints? I bet Jupiter's even taken them up just
to prove Why Cat's Paint!
You still coming over tomorrow
night for dinner?
SARK: Oh yeah! I can't wait to try your
vegetable lasagna. And I'm just dying to
see the progress
you've made on your bathroom wall stenciling. And before
I forget, I have an idea for a new product, and I'd like
to get your input on it. Can I bring some sketches by?
Me: Oh sure, you know I love to see
what you're up to — bring them on over! Listen, I'll
see you around seven then, okay?
SARK: Sure thing. See ya then!
Me: Okay, buh bye! •
